Judy K. Sakaki became Sonoma State’s seventh president in 2016. In recognition of her deep commitment to students, she was named California State University’s 2017 “President of the Year” by the statewide association representing 425,000 students throughout the CSU’s 23 campuses.
Before coming to Sonoma State, Dr. Sakaki was Vice President for Student Affairs in the University of California Office of the President, overseeing student affairs for all 10 UC campuses. She also served as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at UC Davis and Vice President/Dean of Students at Fresno State.
Born and raised in Oakland, President Sakaki is a first-generation college student. She earned her B.A. and M.S. at CSU East Bay. And as a working single mom, she received her Ph.D. in Education at UC Berkeley. She has two sons, a high school English teacher and a physician.
The Sonoma County Women in Conversation events continue to create a strong voice surrounding topics of interest to women of all ages, building a community of women who support and motivate each other and engage in important conversations.
We are expanding our program in the fall, with a larger, beautiful venue and with more engagement and attendee interaction.
The Sonoma County Women in Conversation Experience will start at 3:30 p.m. on the lovely grounds of the Green Music Center, with a free-flowing, informal format that will encourage guests to mingle and engage with the many exhibiting partners. At 6:30 p.m., the event will shift to the speaker portion with three fascinating women with different life experience and perspectives.
